In addition to a wider editorial piece written by journalist Eamonn Forde Trends with benefits: five key lessons from D2C in 2019, we thought December was a good time for us to look back and reflect on some of the great campaigns run by Ochre clients this past year.
It’s been an amazing 12 months seeing so many innovative uses of the platform, with some real success stories for music retail. Here are just some of our highlights:
Editors - Black Gold
In September Editors announced the release of a ‘best of’ compilation including three brand new songs. Exclusive and limited webstore only formats were available to pre-order, alongside standard versions, and every fan who pre-ordered got access to presale tickets via a secure voucher code for their 2020 stadium tour.
A Beautiful Thing: IDLES Live at Le Bataclan Collector Bundles
The timing of IDLES live album was a brilliant opportunity for Partisan to not only press limited collectible versions of the vinyl, but also offer smart bundling options for fans looking for the complete back catalogue on vinyl.
API - Custom front end websites
Ochre’s frontend API is available for clients who wish to take on custom front end builds, or integrate retail tech directly within a third party app. Ochre’s standard stores are feature rich and require zero development resources. However, for the right project a custom front end build allows for maximum creativity and flexibility.
felakuti.com and warp.net both took advantage of the new Ochre API in 2019
Flow State Yoga Bundle
Above & Beyond - Flow State Yoga Bundle. ‘Flow State’ was written specifically for yoga, so it made perfect sense for Anjunabeats to retail a bundle of the album including an Above & Beyond branded yoga mat!
Flying Lotus - Flamagra
‘Flamagra’ was the first campaign to take advantage of Ochre’s new UI for retailing bundles. This offered a much improved user experience for customers and very positive effect on store conversion rates. Multiple merch items bundled with one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2019 was the perfect test case for this new feature.
Re-issues: Ariel Pink
We’ve seen a number of reissue campaigns executed successfully on Ochre during 2019, one of the most interesting approaches was when Mexican Summer created Ariel Archives - 10 X ALBUM BUNDLE SHIPPED TO YOU IN 4 INSTALLMENTS IN 2019 AND 2020..
The Expanded & Remastered Album Reissues. Another successful year long reissue campaign was the Stereolab back catalogue. In November, Stereolab completed their year-long seven album reissue campaign.
Metronomy Forever Album pre-order campaign including early access to tour pre-sale tickets. Setting up an early access ticket pre-sale mechanic is a popular way for artists to drive album pre-orders whilst also promoting an upcoming tour. One of our favourite examples from this year was the return of Metronomy.
